(I have not read further than this page; any similarity to information revealed later in the comic is pretty neat I think.)

Doris created the universe by weaving a long fabric, the Fabric of Reality. She started by weaving the end, and thus, knows everything that will happen as she's already made it. The comic itself is this fabric, a record of everything stitched into and moving along the threads. Whatever lies outside this Fabric is Nothing, disconnected from the fabric, like Student.

However, the future is not set in stone. When Broccoli and Doris get emotionally unstable, their word bubbles fray, their emotions disturbing the Fabric; even though everything has already been woven, the Fabric itself can be altered. Perhaps the Void is a place without entropy because it is the yarn at the "beginning", a pool of raw potential.

Doris's boop seems to have broken seperated the universe from the Fabric as she's altered its course in a linear causal manner; this may only be possible as a result of Student's presence defying the predetermined path, of only slightly. Student's ability to put people to sleep might also be them skipping people forward in time, but that's just speculation with little to no supporting evidence.

Also, Waffles, despite being a dog, looks like a cat; I believe this is because he is bound by the threads of Doris's "web" as a cat is compelled by a ball of yarn. Are the other "cats" the same way?
